What's the most famous movie you've never seen?
Submitted by Mike.
To answer this, I'd need a list of "Most Famous Moves," because maybe something is really famous and since I haven't seen it I have no idea it exists. I looked at the Netflix top 100, which is really more "popular" than "famous," and discovered that I haven't seen anything in the current top ten except "Finding Neverland."
I googled "Famous Movie List" and found many lists of famous quotes. I found a list of "Famous Movies I Hate," and I have seen most of the top ten - three of them I would cut off a limb rather than see again. Three others in the top ten would make my list of Famous Movies I Love, so there you go for taste. We have to get down to number 12, Mission Impossible, to get to one I haven't seen. I haven't seen any of the Mission Impossible movies. I never will. I don't know if they are any good or not and I don't care - there's just nothing there that seems at all interesting to me. Hmm... Passion of the Christ is on there too. I haven't seen that one. I kind of want to see that for the language thing, but everyone I know who has seen it says it's so bloody that anything worthwhile is pretty much swallowed up by the gore.
I have a horror of state-sponsered execution. The concept of the vast group intelligence of the state carrying out an official procedure in order to legally kill someone is horrifying. That the person being killed has, maybe, committed a horrible crime, is no comfort at alll; it just compounds the horror. Bureaucratic violence is the scariest kind, because it's so implacable and there is no escape. It's like that scene in Brazil (to come back to famous movies) where the guy is on his way to be tortured after losing the only person he has ever loved - and he's being endlessly lectured and signing forms about financial responsibility. It just makes it all worse, because it makes murder into something normal.
